OUTRAGE CONTEST: Roe v. Wade

Alexis Beckford

after Eduardo C. Corral

i glance at the

red dot spreading

wildly against the

puddled pavement

the smell of rain

thrashes against

moonlit curtains—

like the salty refines

of a wounded anchovy

i rip open the skin

of a mango

feeding on the fleshy juices

flowing down the grooves

of my fingertips

blue vines dance gracefully

growing loudly

through the cracks

of the sidewalk

the red dot settles

down into charred watermarks

as the sky devours

the raindrops

slowing the pattern

down to

a

gentle drizzle
